# WOO® Collagen: What Research Really Says About Collagen Supplementation

> From age 25, the body's own collagen production declines measurably. What supplementation really delivers, what it does not - and what matters when choosing a product.

Collagen accounts for about 30% of the body's total protein mass - it is the most abundant protein in the human body. From age 25, the body's own production declines by roughly 1-1.5% per year. From 40, this process accelerates.

## The Biochemistry of Collagen

There are at least 28 known types of collagen. **Type I (80-90%):** Skin, tendons, ligaments, bones. **Type II:** Primarily in cartilage. **Type III:** Skin, blood vessels, organs. WOO® Collagen primarily contains hydrolyzed collagen types I and III.

## What Studies Concretely Show

**Skin:** Proksch et al. (2014) studied 69 women over 8 weeks taking 2.5 g of hydrolyzed collagen daily: significantly improved skin elasticity (+15%), reduced fine lines, improved moisture content.

**Mechanism:** Collagen peptides are broken down into small dipeptides (Pro-Hyp, Hyp-Gly) that stimulate fibroblasts to produce more of the body's own collagen - a signaling effect.

**Joints:** Shaw et al. (2017, AJCN) showed that 15 g of collagen + vitamin C before training significantly increased collagen synthesis in connective tissue.

## Why Vitamin C Is Indispensable

Collagen synthesis is absolutely dependent on vitamin C. **WOO® Collagen** contains vitamin C as an integrated component.

WOO® Collagen comes in the varieties Nature, Strawberry-Prickly Pear, Peach and Fish Collagen. Available in our shop.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**How much and when?**
5-15 g daily, in the morning on an empty stomach or before training, always with vitamin C. At least 8-12 weeks for measurable effects.

**Is fish collagen better?**
Comparable effect, somewhat higher bioavailability thanks to smaller peptide sizes.

**From what age does it make sense?**
Preventively from age 25-30. Particularly relevant from 40.
