# Overnight Oats “30g Start”: The Protein Breakfast Waiting in Your Fridge

> Five minutes of prep in the evening, 30 grams of protein in the morning. Why your first meal is the most important lever of the day.

Breakfast is the meal where most people fall short on protein. Croissants, bread and jam, muesli with milk: all under 15 grams. Yet research on muscle protein synthesis is clear: it takes around 30 grams of protein per meal to cross the leucine threshold and flip the switch to build mode. Overnight oats solve the problem before it starts: you prepare them in the evening and in the morning a finished breakfast is waiting in the fridge.

## The recipe (1 serving, approx. 34 g protein)

**Ingredients:**

- 50 g rolled oats
- 1 scoop (30 g) [WOO® Protein Vanilla](/en/shop/woo-protein-vanilla-can)
- 1 tbsp [WOO® Flaxseed Flour](/en/shop/woo-flaxseed-flour-bag)
- 180 ml milk or a milk alternative
- 60 g berries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 tsp cinnamon, pinch of salt

**Preparation:**

1. Mix the oats, protein powder, flaxseed flour, cinnamon and salt dry in a jar. That way nothing clumps.
2. Pour in the milk, stir vigorously, fold in the berries.
3. Cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, give it a stir and add a splash of milk if needed. Done.

Meal prep version: prepare three jars on Sunday, they keep easily until Wednesday.

## Why the combination works

Rolled oats provide beta-glucan, a soluble fibre that flattens the blood sugar rise and keeps you full for a long time. The flaxseed flour adds omega-3 fatty acids in the form of alpha-linolenic acid plus extra fibre for your microbiome. The whey protein brings a complete amino acid profile with a high leucine content, exactly the signal that kicks off muscle protein synthesis in the morning.

The effect of a protein-rich breakfast is well documented: more stable blood sugar throughout the day, fewer afternoon cravings and a better distribution of protein intake across your meals, which matters more for maintaining muscle than the daily total alone.

## Three variations for the week

- **Chocolate banana:** Protein Cocoa instead of Vanilla, half a banana instead of berries
- **Apple cinnamon:** grated apple, extra cinnamon, a few walnuts
- **Tropical:** diced mango, coconut flakes, lime zest
